We’ve all experienced that sense of paranoia when, shortly after a spoken conversation, we see an ad related to our discussion. And while some culprits of this vehemently deny listening to conversations to serve ads, we know that many of our other devices do, in fact, listen in. Smart TVs, for instance, are known to collect information about your streaming activity to recommend additional content and target ads. Connected children’s toys record and store the audio from playtime sessions, and more recently, home security systems have come under fire for undisclosed microphones.
That’s without mentioning how your data is always at risk of being compromised through data leaks. all it takes is for someone to know your email and run it through a data leak finder to potentially find your commonly used passwords or IP address.
